New Birkenstock Fan, April 30, 2009 By S. I have always known they were of great quality, but the style is not me. Due to foot surgery I was forced to get a really good sandal. I checked Birkenstock hesitantly and then saw the Red Madrid Birko-Flor in Elle magazine. I was sold. They are precious and sooo comfortable!!! I bought another as a gift and will buy more for myself in another color.
I still can't believe I'm wearing Birkenstocks and actually excited about them, but I am. Perfect for the beach and walking downtown in our hot and humid weather.

They are comfortable and cute. Be careful with the sizing if you are new. I go by the European sizing. I'm 38 which birkenstock call a 7 but I take a 7.5 -8 in other shoes which is European 38 or 39. If I bought the size they say is equivalent to an 8 it would be huge! They take a few days to feel normal when you 1st try them because of the molded footbed but give them a few days to get flexible and they are great.

When I saw these I thought they were cute and more feminine looking. I was excited when they arrived. I tried them on and they felt great, so I put them in my closet. Today after 2 months I took them out and wore them shopping for approximately 5 hours. I have to say my feet ached after only a few hours and the strap is wide, so if you have a bunion it will put pressure on the bunion. I found that out!! The double strapped birkies are cut not to put pressure on a bunion. Needless to say, after 2 mos I cannot return these but will only wear them around the house or yard for short periods of time.
I do not recommend if you need a sandal with more support. Also I don't recommend a sandal of this type if you have a bunion, the pressure makes it really hurt bad. So only double strapped Birkies for this gal from now on.!!
True to size and very cute...I want to end on a positive.!!
